Cuba

So, after the Nassau, Bahamas cruise I walked down the pier and got on another ship for a cruise to Cuba. Little did I know I had picked up a virus from the first ship. That night I had a sore throat and kept going to the bathroom. I felt really bad. No fever, I don’t think but,  coughing, runny nose, poops, no energy, just bad. Our first port was to be Havana, Cuba. OMG! Was I going to be able to get off the ship? I didn’t want to infect a whole island of people. What to do?  My roommate got me some Day Quil, and Nite Quil. I already had sinus medicine and Aleve. This trip was about going to Cuba.  I ate soup and drank tea with some of my home remedy “stuff” all night. I still felt bad the next day. I dosed up with Day Quil,2Aleve, sinus meds AND aspirin. I took more with me but, I was going to see Havana.

We had prearranged to meet our tour guide at 10am “ish.” We got off the ship at 10:30am.   2  of my peeps were not going to do anything but walk around the pier – they didn’t want to spend any money to go on a tour. We talked them into joining us. Good choice. I know One of my ladies felt like I was bullying her to go – and I probably was. I understood she had NEVER been any place outside the the United States and living on a budget. But, DAMN, you don’t travel without a little money. You are going to spend $25 on crap souvenirs that will mean nothing to whom ever you give it too so why not spend that $25 and enlighten your understanding about another culture. Afterall, why did you come? We ALL had a ball. Fpr $25 each we spent 10 hours from one end of Havana to another.

We started out at the Plaza de San Francisco – we already felt akin. lol  W e named out guide “Jose Sauvee”. He was young, handsome, knowlegdeable and smooth. As we walked around the plaza there were a couple of memes dressed in garb of the 1600’s. Now it was HOT and humid. Her e these people were in old ancient  – what appeared to be – heavy garb – fitted long coats with stockings and old timey shoes – men AND women. I was staring a what I thought was a statue and the eyes moved. I nearly fainted. How could someone be dress in all that hot stuff and stand so very still in the blazing heat. WHEW!. Fascinating. We walked a couple of blocks to Jose Sauvee classic 1950 red Chevy.  I had brought a suitcase of gifts for the people – bandaids, antibiotic cream,  tooth paste, tooth brushes, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. My roommate brought T shirts for women, color books and crayons. All these things were in the suitcase. So we put that in the car while we went to an outdoor cafe.  A street artist a caricature of me. We had our first mojito. Pretty good. The cafe used old music albums for place mats – nice touch.

More later – I want to go back
