It should be a no brainer – ALWAYS get travel insurance/vacation protection. You don’t have to get it from me BUT, you should get it.
We have experienced more natural disasters in the last couple of weeks than I can remember in my lifetime. It also seems terrorist attacks on on the rise. Some companies now offer terrorism insurance. Wow, for real! It’s like that, now. Bottom line can you afford to pay for a trip and not take it and/or get prevented from taking it?
I know, the first thing that comes to your mind with all the hurricanes and the cruise lines that are stuck out at sea is , “that’s why I’m not going to cruise.” So far I have NOT heard anything about damages to a ship due to the hurricanes. The captains know how to get the hell out of the way. Yeah, the people cruising might have an extended cruise but, they have a dry place to sleep, food to eat and they are relatively safe. Think beyond the cruise industry – what about the airplanes. So many flights have been cancelled. I had a flight to get out of Houston during all the rains and flooding. The flight was NOT cancelled. We couldn’t get to the airport due to the streets were all flooded and some of the highways had collapsed. The airlines did NOT give any money back but said the monies from the flight could be used as credit on another flight within a year. That sucks! The travel insurance is sending a check to cover the immediate losses, the airplane ticket.
Just think of all the people who have had to make emergency arrangements to get out of town and/or find lodging. At least with travel insurance they can get reimbursed for most, if not all their emergency expenses. This still may not be the best case scenario but SOMETHING is better than nothing. Keep a good credit card on you.
My travel insurance company may cover me for any damages and/interruptions 50+ miles from my home. They are known to give cash back (a check) rather than a voucher for another trip. I want my money. Only the Lord knows if there will be another trip.
