Got Health Problems?

I will get back to the Cuba trip – eventually – BUT, life gets in the way.

I have been fighting the great battle of “WHAT TO EAT?” for years. For most of my life I have been over weight. The one time a “loosing weight campaign” worked was when I wasn’t trying to loose I weight. I went to juicing to be healthy. Loosing weight was the by-product. AND, life got in the way – I am still battling the weight issue AND the health issue.

I have changed my eating habits many times. The BIGGEST challenge was when I got married to a “meat and potatoe” man that  HAS TO have dessert EVERY night. OMG!! I was doomed. I went with the flow. Now, 32 years later, I just can’t do it any more.

Spetember, 2014 we tried going gluten free. We just stopped eating bread.  I bought black rice, more veggies and gluten free pastas. It worked! After the first 2 weeks I stopped itching all over and my husbands’ sciatica went away. Awesome! We did pretty good during the holiday season, too. After a few months – life got in the way, again. Slowly we crept back to eating gluten, not so much bread but, brown rice, crackers,  chips and whatever else. I was out of control, again.

I went to physical therapy last week and found the therapist is a licensed nutritionist. WHOOPEE!  We talked nutrtion. I made a plan for the holidays – change the times that I ate and allow 1 (ONE) dessert a week.  I knew my husband would NOT be onboard with that but, I have to try it for myself. IN the meantime, this past Saturday I went to a “Vegan Event” – I thought a food demonstration. I didn’t bother my husband with it. OMG! Much more than what I expected. There was food for Thanksgiving already cooked – string beans , sweet potatoe pie, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, potatoe salad and cupcakes with decadent icing.   Some of it was vegetarian and some of it was vegan. We had to tell the difference. Most of us could NOT tell the difference and it was all edible – tasty, even.  I got to bring home a pan of gluten free AND vegan cornbread dressing.

There was a speaker about “new wave” industrialized animal farming  and how it is devasting the earth and  “we the people.” EXTREMELY, interesting. YOU MUST WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY “WHAT THE HEALTH”! I watched it with my husband on Sunday and much to my surprise BEFORE the movie was over he said he was onboard with changing our diet. He wants to go vegan!!! I was happily shocked. We can do this together. There was a pyschologist there that is a life coach – how to change your life to be more positive. OMG!! Everything I needed in one room at one event. I am thrilled.

Well, my husband and I agreed we would not buy any more meat nor diary but, since I had just bought our kosher turkey we would have our traditional Thankgsgiving dinner. (I was willing to give it away along with all the other meat in the freezer). I will stick to our plan.

What a challenge. I spoke with the life coach and my homework is to write – “who am I?” before I can see him. Damn!! Life ain’t easy. I find this scary hard!. I will move forward . We ate garlicky cheese bread with salad for diner tonight. I had ordered middle eastern food and it never showed up, mmmmm. We start our new life Monday, after Thanksgiving. We will not go on ‘the last hurray” either. We are more conscious; thus, more careful about what to eat. I will have to learn how to resist life getting in my way. I MUST remember “will this decision have a positive ending or a newgative ending?” WOW!

Strive to get and stay healthy. Be your best you!
