HAWAII for my birthday

Categories: Blog | Posted on May 22, 2018

I had a 4 day turn around from the Vancouver trip to Honolulu, Hawaii – Waikiki Beach. AAWwwwww. I am loving the 80+ degree weather. My arthritic body LOVES the heat and the mild trade winds.

I left Oakland on Alaska Airlines. The plane was packed – a lot of families with kids. I had been up all night so I looked forward to the 5 hour ride – asleep. HOWEVER, there was 1 child that screamed for the WHOLE 5 hours. Not just crying, mind you but, screaming. A couple of passengers got up and mean mugged the mother. God forgive me but, I had hoped the mom would smother the child. We would all have gone to court to be her witness that she had no choice. “The passengers on the plan were going to either murder her or the child, yo honor, she had no choice.” LOL  Smooth ride except for the screamer.

Well we made it to the Hilton Hawaiian Waiikian Village about 9:30 am. Check in is at 4pm. We dropped off our luggage and went to eat breakfast. OMG, there are so many restaurants to choose from. We chose Blue Water Grill. I was disappointed in my chose of a chicken quesadiila. Too much chicken, not enough cheese and the tortilla was hard. No sour cream nor avocado and little pico de gallo. My roomie had a grilled shrimp and rice dish. she was happy. I had a wonderful pineapple juice drink served in a pineapple. The weather was bangin’. We sat there for a couple of hours after we had eaten. We walked around the grounds – huge. There are 7 towers of condos on the property, a man made lake next to the Pacific ocean, shopping for a REAL shopper (specialty stores for pearls, gold jewelry, Louis Vuitton), etc AND bars on the beach.

Ok, so now we are hot and tired and would like to go to our room. DAMN! When they say 4 pm check in, that’s what they mean. Hell, it was only 1:30.  I should have planned to go on a city tour. We waited it out and they gave us access at 3pm – whew!. Our 2 bedroom condo is in the Grand Waikikian Tower – 40 stories tall. We are on the 12th floor. There is a visitors lounge on the 8th floor with tea, coffee and juices. They do a luau on the roof top 5 nights a week – to include a Hawaiian dance show and a roasted pig dinner. Typically, on Friday nights they have a big show next to the man made lake and bar next to the beach. Nice set up. Right after the show are fire works then a quartet starts playing at the bar on the beach. Real nice. Well, there was a special group here and they paid to have more fireworks on Saturday. I saw those from our room. They made our 4th of July fire works cry. WOW! fantastic.

We went to Benihana’s for my birthday dinner. We had enough food to bring home for dinner the next night, too. I truly like the garlic butter on my brown rice. Totally awesome.

Well, by Sunday, the ash and or acid air from the Big Island was getting to my sinuses. DAMN! I brought medication for sinuses but, not for all that is happening. UGH. Airnow.com says the air quality is good but my sinuses says otherwise. As beautiful as it is here, I’m almost glad to go home tomorrow. I will miss the heat. We had reservations to go to Pearl Harbor and a couple different city tours. My ability to breathe is compromised. Can’t/won’t do the tours. However, the facility and grounds here are DEFINITELY impressive. It will have to do, this time. I have been here several times before so, nothing lost for me.  AAaaagggggghhhhh! I loose the 80+ degrees, tho.
