Mazatlan

… First stop Mazatlan. We had to get baking soda and Lysol (should have gotten some vinegar) for the bathroom. A foul sewage smell kept coming up from the bathroom floor drain.  EEEEuuuuuu!!! We told our ship steward, he sprayed something which dissipated almost immediately. Can’t remember much about Mazatlan except I found my ole friend, Tequila. “Nuff said.”

The food on the ship was nothing to write home about. A person would not starve to death BUT, not quite meeting the American standard, tho.  Not much variety.  In the buffet breakfast was fine – any kind of eggs, bacon sausage , lots of meats and breads. You could get eggs and omelets made to order, coffee, tea and juice. For lunch there were tacos or burritos, about 3 vegetable dishes, potatoes and/or rice  and lots of beef.  A real HELL OF A PLACE for a vegan. Of course there were salads. First day they had a seafood dish with noodles. Yes, I ate some – VERY GOOD. (I was told, as a vegan if you “have to” cheat, eat fish). However, by the end of the week they had paella – I LOVE paella. HOWEVER, I swear they used the left over seafood from the first night for the paella. Thank goodness I could NOT eat it. HORRIBLE!!  The desserts were mostly flan of all sorts, fruit and cakes. NO COOKIES, NO WHERE!! There was, of course, a lot of food AND it was the same food every day. UGH. The formal dining room was nice, as most of them are. The wait staff all seemed to be new to this ship. As a matter of fact, probably half the ship staff was new. The ship came from the UK. This was only the second voyage from Mexico. I had room service once – forget about it.  Again, a person would not starve to deaths but, this ship hardly met my expectation. Oh well, after all – “you get what you pay for…”
